Nigeria’s Oluwatobiloba Amusan is reeling with excitement after claiming Gold medal in the 100m Hurdles at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America.
Amusan, 25, made history as the first African and Nigerian to win Gold medal in the event, after coasting home with a time of 12.06s.
It would have been her second World Record (WR) of the day but for the excess wind.
The Ogun State- born athlete had earlier set a new World Record of 12.22s in the semi-final.
Jamaican Britany Anderson came second in
12.23s, while Olympic Champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn settled for Bronze with the same time.
“I couldn’t be more thankful, I have come out here with a win and the World Record,” Amusan said after her historic feat.
Her close friend, Ese Brume also made the day more memorable for Nigeria, claiming Silver medal in the Women’s Long Jump.
