The aggrieved teachers on Friday locked the main entrance gates of the LEA’s offices across the area councils.

Some apparently aggrieved teachers of primary school in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, have made their grievances known.
The teachers have shut down all the Local Education Authority (LEA) offices across the six area councils over alleged non-payment of their promotion arrears by the councils’ chairmen.
The aggrieved teachers on Friday locked the main entrance gates of the LEA’s offices across the area councils.
It was learnt that both staff of the LEAs and teachers were seen standing in front of the offices’ gates, while officials of the branches of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) prevented some of the staff from accessing their offices, including the LEA’s secretaries.
Some of the teachers who spoke with Daily Trust lamented the non-payment of their promotion areas despite a ministerial template where N30 million will be deducted monthly from the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) for payment of teachers’ arrears.
The FCT Secretary of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Margarethe I. Jethro, told newsmen that the union decided to order all its branches to shut down the six area councils LEA offices over non-payment of teachers’ promotion arrears by the council chairmen.
