Lagos Attorney General To Lead Prosecution Team Against Trigger-Happy Policemen Involved In Death Of Female Lawyer, Raheem

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, Moyo Onigbanjo will lead the prosecution team against the suspected killers of a Lagos-based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem.

Onigbanjo disclosed this on Tuesday during his condolence visit to the family of the deceased lawyer in the Ajah area of the state, a statement by the state information and strategy commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso, said.

SaharaReporters had reported how Mrs Omobolanle Raheem was killed while she was returning home from a Christmas service at Ajah Under-bridge on Sunday.

Ajah is a popular area in Lagos, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

SaharaReporters learnt that after killing Omobolanle Raheem, the trigger-happy policeman fled the scene along with his colleagues before another set of policemen later came and took her remains to a mortuary in the Yaba area of the state.

On Monday, the police said it had begun investigating the killing of the female lawyer.

“We have the permission of Mr Governor to tell you that justice will be done in this matter. The matter will be charged to court as soon as the police send us the case file.

“I will be leading the prosecution to show the seriousness the government attaches to this matter,” said Onigbanjo, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Raheem’s death is just one of many instances of police brutality and extrajudicial killings that have occurred in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.

Gafaru Buraimoh, a resident of Happy Land Estate in Ajah, was similarly killed by an Ajiwe Police State officer on December 6, 2022.

The Nigerian Bar Association has however stated that Raheem’s “killer” must be promptly prosecuted to ensure justice is served.

The country’s Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, who also described the incident as unfortunate and sad, had ordered a prompt investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the heinous and unprofessional act.
