Anambra 2017: I’ll support Obiano if…- Ifeanyi Ubah
*Bags award as Labour-friendly employer
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, has said his desire to govern Anambra State, when he contested the 2013 governorship election on the platform of Labour Party, LP, was not to make money, as he was richer by every standard than some state governors.
Chairman, NLC Lagos chapter, Comrade Tokunbo Korodo presenting awards of Labour-friendly Company and Employer to the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Capital Oil & Gas Industries Ltd, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, in Lagos.
The President FC Ifeanyi Ubah, who spoke to journalists in Lagos, in an interactive session to mark his 45th birthday, said his ambition to govern his state was borne out of his conviction that he could better the lots of Anambrarians.
He however, said that ahead of the 2017 governorship election, the only reason he would support the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano, was if he (Ubah) was appointed Obiano’s Director-General of Campaign.
He though stated that he had no intention to contest the forthcoming 2017 election.
His words: “I am blessed in every ramification. If not for the love I have for Anambra, I should not have any reason to aspire to be governor, because there is nothing a governor enjoys that I do not enjoy.
“I had the best manifesto to change the fortunes of Anambra people when I aspired in 2013 to be a governor, but I had to let go because it must not be me.
“So far, the governor is doing well, and I will support him, but we must think beyond our selfish interests. We must reject a situation where one man finishes his tenure and takes his stooge and puts him as governor.”
Labour awards Ubah
Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has honoured Dr. Ubah over what it described as the various milestones he (Ubah) has achieved in the oil industry, as well as his promotion of the welfare of Nigerian workers and the masses generally.
The Chairman, NLC, Lagos chapter, Comrade Tokunbo Korodo, who led other executive members of the congress to present the awards to Capital Oil and Gas, as well as to Ubah in his personal capacity, said the various milestones Dr. Ubah has achieved in the oil industry, coupled with the promotion of the welfare of Nigerian workers, and the masses, geared the awards.
Korodo said: “The various milestones you have achieved in the oil industry, considering your glowing pedigree, and coupled with your present stance on the promotion of the welfare of Nigerian workers and the masses generally is to us in the NLC very exemplary.
“We are here today to appreciate your magnanimity and your service to humanity. You are a role model to us and the younger generation of this country, a ray of hope, compassionate, and a philanthropist of inestimable value.
“This visit comes to serve as a solemn notification to you through this auspicious Honour that you are a rare gem in our modern day Nigeria, and indeed, your foray in the areas of business, politics, sports development and human capital development are testimonies of your forthrightness, ingenuity and determination to leave positive footprints for posterity.”
Continuing, the Labour leader expressed regret that the people of Anambra State failed to vote Ubah in 2013, saying, “You have touched the lives of people with the enormous milk of human kindness. Your sheer desire to allow for free flow of more of this quintessential humane touch was largely displayed when you forayed into the gubernatorial race in your dear state, Anambra under Labour Party.
“How we wished the people of Anambra know what they missed or are missing by denying the state the luxury of your endowed leadership.
“On behalf of my colleagues here, I want to appreciate your interests for workers and most significantly implore your pursuit to give more to workers through capacity building, and an improved workers’ welfare as we encourage you with this token (awards) to properly register our profound appreciation to you.”
Responding, Ubah said he was elated with the award as it relates to workers’ welfare.
He said: “Anything that drives workers welfare and gives them a sense of belonging is what gives Ifeanyi Ubah joy.
“When I contested for the 2013 Anambra poll, I didn’t go for the high and mighty party, like the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, or Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. I went for Labour Party. I have had a smooth relationship with the Nigerian Labour Congress. NLC.
“I recall when AMCON took over my company, Capital Oil, for two years, I left it for them. But, the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC stood by me, until I took over the company back. I must appreciate the Nigerian Labour Congress for that kind gesture.”
