A 96-year-old woman in Anambra State broke down in tears after being denied the opportunity to vote, with details emerging online.
Notably, the Anambra governorship election is underway, with voters casting their ballots across the state’s 21 local government areas.
The governorship election features 16 candidates competing for the governorship seat.
According to a report from PUNCH NG, the woman, identified as Elizabeth Onike, was denied her vote at the Umudim Akasi Polling Unit in Anaocha Local Government Area.
PUNCH reports that the elderly woman wasn’t allowed to vote because she didn’t have a valid voter’s card.
Speaking after the incident, Elizabeth Onike stated, “My children are outside, and none is at home with me. I am pained that I am not going to vote in this election to determine who will be my next governor”.
In a recent development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun uploading results from the Anambra State governorship election online.
Meanwhile, Governor Charles Soludo of APGA is leading in 17 out of 21 local government areas, with wins in Anambra East, Ayamelum, and Oyi Local Government Areas.
However the winner is yet to be declared by the electoral body.
