Tired of your huge cellphone screen? You just might be in luck. According to new reports, Apple likely is debuting a smaller, updated version of the iPhone on Monday, March 21.
The company sent out emailed invitations to media to attend an unveiling event at their Cupertino, California, campus, BuzzFeedreports. The site says the invites simply read, “Let us loop you in.”
The tech giant reportedly will take this event as an opportunity to finally uncover its 4-inch mini iPhone. According to alleged leaked photos of the phone, the model is similar to the iPhone 5s which was introduced in 2013.
The compact handset will be able to keep up with newer devices as it’s been programmed with the speedier A9 processor that’s currently in the iPhone 6s, according to Bloomberg Business. Apple is also set to uncover products such as the iPad Pro, new Apple watchbands and software updates for its devices.
The event is set to take place one day before Apple faces the government in court over a motion that would compel the company to hack an iPhone used by one of the terrorists who killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California, in December.
On February 16, Apple CEOTim Cookreleased a statementcalling the government request “an unprecedented step which threatens the security of our customers.”
“In today’s digital world, the ‘key’ to an encrypted system is a piece of information that unlocks the data, and it is only as secure as the protections around it,” he added. “Once the information is known, or a way to bypass the code is revealed, the encryption can be defeated by anyone with that knowledge.”
