Argentina president Alberto Fernandez has told the Argentinian people to watch Barcelona play in LaLiga Santander next weekend as they wait for their own football to return.

Obviously, with Barcelona playing, Argentines will be able to watch their national team captain Lionel Messi in action when the Catalan club travel to Real Mallorca on June 13.

“While we wait for Argentinian football [to return], we will have to be content with watching Lionel Messi at Barcelona with the return of the Spanish league next week,” he told TyC Sports.

Although there is talk of potentially having some fans in stadiums in Spain towards the end of the season, Fernandez doesn’t think that will be the case in Argentina.

“When there is a minimum risk in sport, protocol issues must be respected,” he noted.

“Sport must begin when there is no risk [of contagion]. We must be very careful.

“Football must be handled with caution. We must wait for the return of football. To return with [fans in attendance] would be crazy.

“To play again, you have to follow the protocols and I don’t know if all the clubs are capable of doing that.”
