Eddie Nketiah would miss Arsenal’s next three matches after the club lost his red card appeal.
The youngster got a straight red card during the 1-1 draw against Leicester City for dangerous play at the Emirate stadium. Nketiah joined the fray in the second-half but lasted four minutes on the pitch before being given his marching orders by match official Chris Kavanagh.
The 21-year-old was initially shown a yellow card for his high challenge on Foxes defender James Justin, but Kavanagh pulled out a red after consulting VAR.
Mikel Arteta was desperate to have the decision overturned on the grounds of wrongful dismissal but the FA have officially upheld Nketiah’s three-match ban, meaning the forward will now miss the games against Tottenham and Liverpool, while also sitting out the FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City on July 18.
Since returning from his loan spell with Leeds United, Nketiah has scored four goals in his last 13 appearances, the latest of which came during a 2-0 victory away at Southampton in June.
