Arsenal Striker Fails Medical With French Club

A planned move by one of the fringe Arsenal strikers to another club has broken down after the player failed his medical with the interested Ligue 1 side.

Arsenal had re-signed Wellington Silva from Fluminense but their gamble to sell him on to Bordeaux has backfired after the winger failed a medical with the French club.

It is understood that the Gunners inserted a buy-back clause for £1.5million when he joined Fluminense back in July 2016 and triggered the option when they became aware of Bordeaux’s interest.

Arsenal were on course to make a quick profit as the Ligue 1 side were willing to pay £3m, but he failed his medical and is now set to head back to Brazil.

A statement on the Fluminense website said: ‘The transfer of striker midfielder Wellington Silva from Fluminense to Bordeaux in France did not materialize because of a medical issue, as Alexandre Soares, the athlete’s representative, said.
