Mikel Arteta has a lot of work to do to turn Arsenal around and get the club pointing in the right direction again, although Wednesday night’s win over Premier League champions Liverpool suggests he is making some early progress.
Nonetheless, the Spaniard has been bullish in his insistence that new signings will be required.
This has led to a never-ending stream of speculation linking the north London club with countless potential targets.
Thomas Partey’s name continues to be linked with the Gunners, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the club remains uncertain.
Here are three of today’s biggest and most intriguing Arsenal transfer stories.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s agent has confirmed the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder has received “several offers” to leave the Austrian club this summer, with Arsenal among those linked.
The 19-year-old has been mentioned as a potential target for AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain as well as the Gunners, with his release clause reported to stand at €25million (£23m).
Speaking to Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport (via Sempre Milan), Esterhazy Matyas underlined that his client has a number of options but won’t be rushed into a decision.
“There is no update, there are several offers,” he said.
“We have time, there is no need to rush. Seasons in some countries are not even finished. We are seeking the best solution for Dominik. Decisions may be taken in the upcoming weeks.”
Arsenal have reportedly opened negotiations with Malang Sarr over a deal which could see the 21-year-old defender make the move to north London as a free agent.
Team Talk claims the Gunners have moved ahead of the likes of Manchester City and RB Leipzig in the race to sign the centre-back.
Sarr is coming towards the end of his contract with Nice, where he has made more than 100 Ligue 1 appearances over the last four seasons.
Arsenal have yet to table an offer for Sarr, but Arteta and technical director Edu are believed to be keen on taking the player to the club this summer.
Reims centre-back Axel Disasi is also reportedly on the Gunners’ radar as they look to overhaul their defence ahead of the 2020/21 season, with William Saliba finally arriving at the Emirates Stadium after a year on loan at St Etienne.
Samuel Umtiti is expected to leave Barcelona this summer with the Catalan club willing to let the French defender sign for another club on loan.
Arsenal have been repeatedly linked with a move for Umtiti this season, with the centre-back falling
down the pecking order behind Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Ronald Araujo at the Camp Nou.
Sport report that Barca are expected to bring in a new central defender this summer, with Manchester City’s Eric Garcia at the top of their shortlist. This would allow Umtiti to depart Catalonia.
Umtiti doesn’t want to leave Barcelona, but the club has made its decision, with Italy deemed to be the likeliest destination for the player. Arsenal could still enter the race for his signature, though.
