Arturo Vidal has blasted Barcelona for only having 13 professional players, while he has also weighing on the team being over-reliant on Lionel Messi.
The Chilean is one of a number of first-teamers expected to be shown the exit door by Ronald Koeman, who has taken on the Blaugrana job while the club are in a dire situation.
Barcelona failed to win a single trophy last term and the 8-2 Champions League quarter final humiliation against Bayern Munich culminated in a second sacking of the season when Quique Setien joined Ernesto Valverde in getting dismissed.
And former Juventus and Bayern midfield Vidal shared some strong opinions on the problems the Catalan club are facing at the moment.
Speaking to Daniel Habif’s YouTubel channel, Vidal said: “Barcelona have to change their way of thinking.
“Football has moved on a lot and the [whole] DNA [thing] is being left behind because other teams are improving in other aspects: football at the moment is more physical, more dependent on power and speed and the technical side is sometimes less important.
“The last three years are not what a team like Barcelona deserves. The best team in the world cannot have 13 professional players. You cannot always win with DNA.”
With Barca in such a crisis, captain and talisman Lionel Messi has told the club he wants to end his glittering stint at the Nou Camp and is reportedly even refusing to turn up to training as he tries to force a move.
Vidal feels as though Messi, despite managing 25 goals and 21 assists in La Liga last season, was not aided by his teammates.
“(Lionel) Messi is the best in the world, an extraterrestrial, but he needs help so that better results can be achieved.”
A huge overhaul this summer could see Vidal head to Inter Milan, with the likes of Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Samuel UmtitI and Jordi Alba also slated to depart.
Asked whether he feels some players are “transferable” at the moment, Vidal responded: “I have never understood placing the players with that word. It is very ugly.
“If a player wants to leave or you want to sell him, find him a team but don’t say so. It is to pass it on, and each person needs respect.
“I am in a situation of being thrown away to see if someone wants to receive me.
“‘I have earned the complete affection of the people of Barcelona, that is why I would not play for Real Madrid.”
