As a man you’re not meant to take 100% responsibility for your girlfriend – Lady

A Nigerian lady has stirred controversy after sharing her opinion on relationships and financial responsibility.

According to her, a man who fully takes care of his girlfriend financially is setting himself up for trouble.

She argued that a woman a man intends to marry should not be a liability, stressing that women should be able to work and support themselves to some extent.

Using her personal experience, she explained how her mother was able to raise and train her after her father’s death because she had her own means of livelihood.

She warned that carrying a girlfriend’s full responsibility before marriage could eventually extend to taking care of her entire family.

While she clarified that she does not support a strict 50/50 arrangement, she emphasized that support should be mutual and based on assistance, not total dependence.

She said…

“As a man, if you dey take care of your girlfriend 100%, you be f00l. Why will you carry a full grownup human being’s responsibility for head like that. Because the woman you’re supposed to marry no suppose to be a liability to yourself. That woman needs to dey work so that, nobody dey pray say make man first kpai, but if tomorrow that man first kpai and nothing that woman dey do, they go use indomie kn@k your daughter. Like me now, my papa kpai when I dey small, but my mom get one or two wey e dey do. E use am raise me, train me for school.

So imagine say you come dey carry your girlfriend’s responsibility when you never even marry am, forget am na liability you dey marry and that kind girl, you go take care of him father, him mama, this people go bankrupt you.

I no believe in 50/50 but small ‘babe assist me with something’, you suppose assist. You don’t take responsibility, you assist.”
