The Atletico Madrid squad returned to training on Saturday morning and the players were divided into groups of six, with Renan Lodi being the only absentee after testing positive for coronavirus.

As planned, preventative measures outlined in LaLiga’s protocol conditioned how the training session took place.

Thus, equipped with masks and gloves to move around Atletico’s training facilities, the players did work on the two natural grass pitches and they didn’t have the slightest contact with each other.

So, while some players arrived on one side of the pitch, others left on the other.

Stefan Savic was the first member of the Atletico squad to arrive for training, followed by Sime Vrsaljko, Felipe Augusto, Santiago Arias, Jose Gimenez and Ivan Saponjic.

They were the first ones under Diego Simeone’s watchful eye, as they ensured that they avoided contact with each other.

In fact, each player had his own ball and his own things to work on, while at the end of training, they went back to their cars with their own clothes to take a shower at home.

On Monday, when the second training session is scheduled, this atypical way of training will continue which, although not ideal, at least allows Atletico to start their return towards playing football again.
