Atletico Madrid unveils Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman after €40m transfer

Super Eagles winger, Ademola Lookman, has officially been presented as an Atletico Madrid player after his €40m transfer from Atalanta.

The La Liga heavyweights announced on Monday the arrival of the Super Eagles forward, who joins from Italian side Atalanta on a long-term contract running until June 30, 2030. The deal is reportedly worth an initial €35 million, with an additional €5 million tied to performance-related bonuses.

The Nigerian forward has now been formally unveiled to the Spanish media, marking his first official appearance as an Atlético Madrid player.

During the presentation, the club also confirmed his squad number, with the Nigerian international set to don the No. 22 shirt as he begins the next chapter of his career in La Liga.

“I’m very happy, truly, it’s a huge club, a blessing for me, I’m incredibly proud,” Lookman said.

He added that his first hours with the team had been positive: “I’ve already been with my teammates, it’s been fantastic, they’ve given me a great welcome, I’m looking forward to sharing more training sessions.”

Lookman highlighted the significance of representing Nigeria and his willingness to sacrifice financially for the opportunity to play in La Liga.

“It’s fantastic, a great responsibility, but also a pleasure to wear these colours,” he said of playing for the Super Eagles.

On giving up money to join Atletico, he commented: “I’m very happy, that’s why I came, it’s also a pleasure to play in this league.”

Lookman outlined his contribution: “My game is very dynamic, it’s based on speed and I’ll try to make the difference in critical moments.

“That’s what I like. The most important thing is to help the team.”
