The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed that soldiers wounded in battles against Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast be evacuated to Kaduna for treatment.
Oluyede gave the directive during his visit to Maimalari Army Hospital in Maiduguri on Saturday, emphasizing the Nigerian Army’s commitment to wounded soldiers’ welfare.
He noted that the move aims to ensure troops receive the best possible care.
According to Oluyede, “The Nigerian Army is committed to the welfare of soldiers who have been injured in the line of duty. All wounded soldiers will be evacuated to Kaduna for treatment. This is to ensure they receive the best possible care and attention, and to show appreciation for their sacrifices.”
The Nigerian Army 44 Reference Hospital in Kaduna is one of the most advanced military hospitals in the country, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed by highly trained medical personnel.
The directive has been welcomed by wounded soldiers, who expressed gratitude for the attention to their welfare. “This is a welcome development,” said Private Ali Ibrahim, a wounded soldier receiving treatment at the army hospital in Maimalari cantonment.
The Nigerian Army has been engaged in various operations against Boko Haram, resulting in casualties among troops. Operation Hadin Kai North-East has adopted a new war strategy to combat Boko Haram remnants in Borno and Yobe states.
Oluyede sought collaboration with the Borno government and residents to end the insurgency. He was accompanied by senior military officers who spent three days in Borno for an operational visit.
