Borno man stabs self and removes his penis after estranged wife refused to return home

A 50-year-old man, Modu Isa, has survived a suicide attempt after stabbing himself and cutting off his genitals with a knife over his estranged wife’s refusal to return home Bama, Borno State. 

The incident, which occurred on Friday evening, August 15, 2025 at Hausari Ward, was reported by community members who rushed to his aid. 

Witnesses told security analyst, Zagazola Makama that Isa stabbed himself three times in the stomach before cutting off his penis with a knife. 

He was said to have carried out the act because his former wife, Bayanxe Modu of Konduga, whom he had divorced three times, refused to return to his house. 

“He said if Bayanxe cannot have him, then his gbola too must go,” said a bemused neighbor, who admitted she was still struggling to process the entire episode. 

It was gathered that Police led a patrol team to the scene, recovered the knife as an exhibit, and evacuated the victim to General Hospital, Bama. 

In an update in what many residents are calling a medical miracle, doctors at the hospital performed an emergency procedure to reattach the man’s prized possession. 

Hospital sources confirmed that “the gbola has been brought back to him and is currently alive and responding to treatment.” 

Meanwhile, security sources confirmed the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for further investigation.
