Kalu was nominated for the position by Babajimi Benson from Lagos State and seconded by Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim from Yobe state.

Benjamin Kalu has emerged as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He was elected to the position by his colleagues unopposed.

Before his recent position, he was the Immediate past spokesman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

Kalu was nominated for the position by Babajimi Benson from Lagos State and seconded by Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim from Yobe state. 

Kalu is the APC endorsed candidate for the position. 

Benson said the nomination was necessary in the interest of inclusion and addressing perceived marginalisation. 

After calling for more nomination with none forthcoming, the Clerk to the National Assembly declared Kalu elected as Deputy Speaker and proceeded to administer the path of office on him.
