Matchday six in the Championship kicks-off in South Wales with a meeting of two of last season’s relegated sides from the Premier League – Cardiff City and Fulham.
The hosts have had an indifferent start to life back in the second tier, winning two and losing two of their five games so far while their opponents are only two points better off after they suffered a surprise home defeat to Nottingham Forest last time out in the league.
Bristol City could move, if only for a short while, level on points with leaders Leeds United if they are victorious in Saturday’s early kick-off, though a Middlesbrough side who have taken four points from the last six available to them stand in their way.
Headline
Few would argue that the game of the weekend takes place at Elland Road, where Leeds take on a Swansea City side who sit just below them on goal difference.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are favourites for promotion, however you may be more tempted to back Steve Cooper’s side to go up at a price of 7/2.
Charlton Athletic are the only side outside of the top three yet to
be beaten in the league, and will hope to continue their great start as
they head to Reading, who themselves haven’t tasted defeat in any
competition since matchday two.
.
Another side on a good run are Nottingham Forest, though they will
be tested by the visit of sixth place Preston and North End while
Sheffield Wednesday play hosts to a Queens Park Rangers side who have
lost three of their last four matches.
Top reaches
West Bromwich Albion are among a clutch of sides with the top reaches of the table in their sights, and take on Blackburn Rovers while Millwall will hope to pile more misery onto Hull City, who have slipped down the division after back-to-back defeats.
Birmingham City will be glad to be back at home after three consecutive 3-0 defeats on the road, with bottom-of-the-table Stoke City their opponents.
It’s been a somewhat surprisingly poor start in the league for the Potters, however they did get past Leeds United in their EFL Cup second round tie midweek.
Struggle
Huddersfield Town are above Stoke on goal difference alone and face another tough test with a trip to Luton Town, while Wigan Athletic host a Barnsley side who sit one place and one point above them.
Finally, having not won in the league since the opening weekend, and after crashing out of the EFL Cup at the home of fierce rivals Forest midweek Derby County head to Brentford, who will leapfrog the Rams should they win.
