Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has blasted Liverpool for claiming his team was the stronger side after the European Super Cup clash defeat in Istanbul on Wednesday evening.Lampard was delighted with his team performance against the reigning European Champions despite losing on penalties.Chelsea suffered a 4-0 defeat against Manchester United in their Premier League opener on Sunday, Lampard was impressed with the performance of his team against Liverpool.Chelsea took the lead through Olivier Giroud but Liverpool bounced back in the second half to equalize and dragged the match to extra time that ended in 2-2, with Chelsea having two goals disallowed for offside reasons.
The Reds went on to win the penalty shootout and lift the trophy. Speaking about the game, Lampard said to reporters: “I don’t know about that because I respect Liverpool.”But clearly for me, we were the stronger team. We had bad luck at times and bad finishing at times.”My overall feeling is one of pride in team performance and happiness.”I am a terrible loser. You should be. We wanted to win this game. But we were very unfortunate today.”We were slightly unfortunate but that’s what penalties is, I suppose.”
