Chelsea are weighing up a move for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae as the club reassesses its defensive options ahead of the summer transfer window.
Reports in Germany suggest the Premier League side have expressed interest in the South Korean centre-back, with Bayern informed of Chelsea’s monitoring through the player’s representatives.
Any move, however, would depend on valuation, with Chelsea understood to be cautious about committing unless the “price is right”.
The development comes amid a broader rethink of Chelsea’s defensive structure following an inconsistent campaign at the back, an issue previously highlighted by former head coach Enzo Maresca before his dismissal.

Kim, 29, joined Bayern Munich from Napoli in 2023 in a deal worth around £43m and has since made 99 appearances for the Bundesliga champions.
He has also collected a league title during his time in Germany.
Despite Chelsea’s reported interest, Bayern are not actively looking to sell. The defender is under contract until 2028 and is said to be content with his role under head coach Vincent Kompany, who has rotated his defensive options throughout the season.
While Bayern would listen to offers, sources indicate the club are comfortable retaining Kim unless a substantial bid is presented.
Kim is not the only defender under consideration at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are also tracking Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, who is valued at around £56m.
The 20-year-old has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, and Rennes are believed to be holding out for a fee that would exceed their record sale.
Chelsea are reported to have agreed personal terms with Jacquet earlier this month, but negotiations with Rennes have stalled due to a gap in valuation.
The renewed focus on defence follows heavy investment in attacking and midfield areas in recent windows, with Chelsea committing significant funds to squad rebuilding under their current ownership structure.
New head coach Liam Rosenior is targeting a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, with defensive solidity seen as a key requirement to support that ambition.
