Chelsea is prepared to battle Manchester United for the signature of Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to a report.

The defensive midfielder has been tipped for a move to the Premier League with Liverpool in the past, while Manchester United and Manchester City have more recently been linked.

The Switzerland international has been regular for both club and country and his impressive performance has attracted the interest of European top clubs.

German outlet Bild claims that Zakaria has now attracted more interest from England, with Chelsea eyeing up the Servette academy product.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is a huge fan of the 23-year-old midfielder and he considers the Switzerland midfielder as a good option to bolster his midfield ranks and protect his frail backline in the Chelsea team.
