Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has vowed to take decisive action against anyone responsible for the killing of police officers or residents, warning that such violence will not be tolerated under his leadership.
Orutugu, an Ijaw man, emphasized that his people do not fear anyone and stressed that Anambra does not deserve the continuous bloodshed it has faced for years.
“Every time, what we hear in Anambra is killings, kidnappings, and all sorts of crimes fueled by people we don’t know. Such a thing cannot continue under my watch,” Orutugu stated.
He also highlighted the state’s legacy of producing prominent figures, including Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie, and Emeka Anyaoku.
Orutugu shared that Anambra had recently achieved a significant milestone—one month without a single gunshot or killing. He credited this success to divine grace, security collaboration, and community cooperation.
Addressing the Monday sit-at-home order, Orutugu expressed optimism that peace was returning to the state, as ongoing campaigns had effectively reached both residents and those enforcing the directive. He warned that criminals still plotting attacks would face firm resistance from security forces, declaring, “Enough is enough.”
