The defendants were remanded at the Owo Correctional Centre by Magistrate Sekoni, who also adjourned the matter until March 28, 2022, for mention.

“Two brothers fingered in the death of a teenage girl have been remanded in a custodial centre by a Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital.

The suspects, Oloruntoyin Abdullahi, 31, and Ayodele Kazeem, 26, were arrested after they were accused of murdering 20-year-old Ebunoluwa Osatuyi.

The late Osatuyi was found dead inside her parents’ apartment on January 24 after returning from a coaching centre.

She was said to have been axed and clubbed to death.

The arrest of the siblings was said to have been aided by an investigation by the police after the phone of the deceased was traced to them.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Ajiboye Obadasa, the defendants killed Osatuyi after they hit her head with a pestle at about 5:40 pm in her parents’ house at No 1, Otiko Street, Okuta Elerinla, Akure, the state capital.

He informed the court that the offence was contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 9 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

While pleading not guilty to the charge, the defendants, claimed that they found the phone of the deceased on the ground along Cathedral Junction.

When the sitting Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, asked them to explain what happened, Oloruntoyin stated he picked up the phone on the ground for his own use, but afterwards gave it to his brother, the second defendant, who needed to make an urgent call.

The defendants were later remanded at the Owo Correctional Centre by Magistrate Sekoni, who also adjourned the matter until March 28, 2022, for mention.
