Delta Loses Two Former Commissioners Within 24 Hours, Isoko Nation Mourns ‘Sons’

According to SaharaReporters, Isoko Nation has been thrown into mourning following the death of its two prominent sons and politicians, Prof. Abednego Ekoko and Arch. Joseph Ajiri Ogeh.

They were former commissioners in Delta state.

The death of the two Isoko sons which occurred within 24 hours, happened on Saturday and Sunday.

First was that of the former Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Prof. Abednego Ekoko, which occurred on Saturday morning.

Ekoko, a renowned Nigerian historian and former commissioner for education in Delta State, died in faraway India where he was said to have travelled to for an undisclosed ailment, SaharaReporters learnt.

Ekoko, aged 79, was from the oil-rich Uzere Community in the Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.

Ekoko, a former chairman of the Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, was until his death a member of the project committee for the establishment of three new universities in the state.

Meanwhile, barely 24 hours after the news of the death of Ekoko went viral, the people of Isoko nation woke up on Sunday to the news of the death of another prominent son–Architect Joseph Ajiri Ogeh.

Ogeh, who was the immediate past Commissioner for Housing in the state during Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s first term in office.

SaharaReporters gathered that Ogeh slumped and died in his Warri residence early Sunday morning.

He was said to have been recovering from an undisclosed ailment before death struck.

Ogeh, a former commissioner representing Isoko ethnic nationality on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission (DESOPADEC), held a political meeting with friends till the early hours of Sunday before he slumped and died, sources told SaharaReporters.

Our correspondent gathered that Ogeh, who also had the ambition to become a senator come 2023, was billed to have another meeting on Sunday with his political family at his Iyede country home in the Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.

Both Isoko sons were members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Within a year, the Isoko nation has mourned the death of four prominent sons in politics among whom was the majority leader of the state House of Assembly, representing, Isoko North constituency, Tim Owhefere, who died on January 27, 2021.

Also, Kenneth Ogba, a member representing Isoko South Constituency 1 died on June 27, 2021.

Ekoko and Ogeh, former commissioners who died on Saturday, November 6, 2021, and Sunday, November 7, 2021, respectively have now joined the two who had died earlier in the year.
