The embattled former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has sought to amend her lawsuit before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The case challenges an order obtained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the final forfeiture of her seized assets.
During the latest hearing, no legal representative appeared on behalf of the EFCC. Justice Ekwo asked Alison-Madueke’s counsel if they had received documents from the anti-corruption agency, to which the counsel confirmed.
The attorney also informed the court of a motion filed to amend their documents and verified that the EFCC had been properly served.
Justice Ekwo subsequently adjourned the case to February 17, 2025, to hear the motion for amending the originating process.
The former minister also requested an extension of time to seek permission to challenge the EFCC’s public notice on the sale of her confiscated properties. She argued that she was denied a fair hearing during the proceedings leading to the orders for the sale of her assets.
In its defense, the EFCC dismissed many of Alison-Madueke’s claims as false. The agency stated that most of the cases resulting in the final forfeiture of the disputed assets were thoroughly heard and adjudicated by the courts over time.
