Don’t be distracted by politicians seeking power through back door – Wike celebrates Okpebholo’s victory in governorship tribunal

Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has congratulated Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State on his victory at the election tribunal.

The tribunal, on Wednesday, April 2, upheld Okpebholo’s win in the September 2024 governorship election, dismissing the petition filed by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement signed by his senior special assistant on public communications and social media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the ruling as a reaffirmation of the mandate freely given to Okpebholo by the people of Edo State.

He called on the governor to remain focused on governance and not be distracted by those who “are only interested in getting power through the back door.” Wike emphasized that the tribunal’s verdict was a victory for the people of Edo State and urged Okpebholo to stay committed to service.

“I believe in him, and with the way he has started, I believe that his government will impact positively on Edo State and its people,” Wike said. Notably, Wike is a member of the PDP, while Okpebholo belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
