This weekend on DStv, lovers of the beautiful game will have the pleasure of watching their favourite teams in action in the English Premier League clubs and Spanish La Liga.
Football action resumes in the Premier League following thrilling 5th round ties in the FA Cup which saw league leaders Liverpool succumb to a 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. The Reds will aim to take a step closer to their first Premier League trophy in 30 years when they host Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday.
The pick of the litter in the league this weekend is without a doubt the Manchester derby between Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s Manchester United Red at Old Trafford. The last meeting between the two giants ended in a surprise 2-1 win for Manchester United and the Red Devils will fancy their chances again to move closer to a Champions League spot.
Manchester City are going into the game in high spirits after lifting the EFL Cup last weekend with victory over Aston Villa, and will seek to avenge the loss suffered at the Etihad in December. City have won five matches in a row in all competitions, but they still trail leaders Liverpool by 22 points with a game in hand to play.
In La Liga, DStv subscribers will catch a roaring Barcelona on SuperSport, as the Blaugrana aim to bounce back from a disappointing showing in the El-Clasico against Real Madrid last Sunday when they host Real Sociedad at Camp Nou on Saturday. The reigning champions have won their last 19 home games against Sociedad in all competitions, but they’ll face stiff competition in their opponents who have won their last three games in Spain’s topflight to rise to the sixth position on the log.
Real Madrid don’t play until a day later, so Barcelona could move two points clear of their fierce rivals with a victory over Sociedad, with whom they shared the points in a 2-2 draw in December. Current leaders Real Madrid travel to Real Betis on Sunday.
In Italy, the game that will keep football lovers at the edge of their seats is the showdown between Juventus and Internationale on Sunday. Both teams trail leaders Lazio two points and eight points respectively but are still in contention for the Scudetto. Juventus could leapfrog Lazio who aren’t in action at the weekend into first place if they repeat the 2-1 victory over Inter in October.
All action will be live on SuperSport 3 & 10 this weekend. Details below:
