D’Tigress Makes History, First African Side In The Q/Final Of The Olympics

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team has made history becoming the first African side (men or women) to qualify through to the Quarterfinal of the Olympics.

D’Tigress, three-time Women’s Afrobasket Champions who are making their third appearance at the Olympics after Athens 2004 and Tokyo2020, dug deep to beat Canada ranked 5th, 79-70.

The Coach Rena Wakama-side lost to hosts France (54-75) in the second game of the tournament after a shocking victory against Australia (75-62) in the opening game. The African team came into the tournament as the lowest-placed side (12th) but kudos to defensive dexterity has beaten the World’s No 3 & No 5.

First ever African team (Men or Women) to ever play in #Olympics Quarter-Finals:

It’s Nigeria! 🇳🇬
