The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested two individuals in Zamfara State for vote buying during the ongoing 2023 presidential election. The suspects were apprehended by EFCC operatives who were monitoring polling stations in the state.
According to a statement released by the EFCC, the suspects were caught in possession of large sums of cash which they were allegedly using to buy votes from voters. The statement also revealed that the suspects were working on behalf of a political party that is participating in the election.
The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the electoral process is free and fair, and has urged the public to report any incidents of electoral malpractice to the relevant authorities.
Vote buying has become a major concern in Nigerian elections, with politicians often using cash and other incentives to influence the votes of citizens. The EFCC and other law enforcement agencies have been stepping up efforts to combat this practice, and have made several arrests in recent years.
