Elon Musk, MPs Join Social Media Storm Over UK Child Sex Abuse Ring Scandal

Elon Musk, British MPs Join Social Media Storm Over UK Child Sex Abuse Ring Scandal

The UK’s grooming gang scandal has been thrust back into the spotlight, with social media becoming the epicentre of intense debate.

Meanwhile, prominent figures including Tesla CEO Elon Musk and British author J.K. Rowling joined British MPs in addressing the issue over the past 24 hours.

Musk sparked controversy with a series of posts criticising the UK’s handling of grooming gang cases.

Directly targeting Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who led the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) between 2008 and 2013, Musk questioned the alleged lack of action during that period.

In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service’s approval for the police to charge suspects. Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008-2013,” Musk posted.

He further added, “Free Tommy Robinson!”—a call that reignited polarised debates around Robinson, a controversial figure associated with far-right activism.

BS reports that British journalist Tommy Robinson, currently serving time in a high-security prison, has reignited discussions about grooming gangs in the UK through his social media team.

Robinson, known for his controversial stance on the issue, gained attention after releasing a documentary alleging the industrial-scale rape, pimping, and molestation of young girls in areas like Telford.

A post from Robinson’s account on X detailed one victim’s story: “Nicole’s story. Nicole was raped and pimped at the age of 11 by members of a grooming gang in Telford, one of many, many cases in that area. A man is languishing in solitary confinement in a high-security prison because he dared to speak out and tell the truth about this scourge.”

Prominent figures have also weighed in on the issue. Author J.K. Rowling condemned the crimes and highlighted potential police corruption, referencing a Telegraph article by journalist Sam Ashworth-Hayes.

On X, Rowling wrote: “The details emerging about what the rape gangs (why call them ‘grooming’ gangs? It’s like calling those who stab people to death ‘knife owners’) did to girls in Rotherham are downright horrific. The allegations of possible police corruption in the case are almost beyond belief.”

Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss also addressed the scandal, expressing outrage over the authorities’ failure to act: “These appalling rape gang cases of girls as young as 11 shame our country. Not only do the perpetrators need to be punished. So do the authorities who turned a blind eye in the name of not inflaming racial tensions.”

Truss further criticised the criminal justice system, calling for systemic reforms: “The horrific failings on rape gangs show the complete lack of accountability in British criminal justice. Ministers must have the power to hire and fire senior civil servants and police officers. Governments are accountable to the people and must be able to change the system.”

Great Yarmouth Reform MP Rupert Lowe described his anger after reviewing details of the cases: “It’s not ‘grooming’ gangs; it’s rape gangs—mass rape gangs. It makes me ashamed to be British. We must deport all foreign nationals involved in these crimes and strip citizenship from dual nationals.

“How many vulnerable British girls are still being exploited, ignored, and silenced to avoid ‘racial tensions?’”

Newark MP Robert Jenrick shared his perspective as a father, calling for harsher penalties: “As the father of girls the same age, it’s hard to comprehend the evil of the grooming gang perpetrators. I will continue to campaign for whole-life sentences and the prosecution of those who covered this up.”

The Rotherham grooming scandal, which occurred between 1997 and 2013, remains one of the most shocking cases of child sexual abuse in the UK.

Meanwhile, a recent development in the case saw the Crown Prosecution Service announce the sentencing of seven men for child sex offences against two girls during the 2000s.

The convicted men—Mohammed Amar, Mohammed Siyab, Yasser Ajaibe, Mohammed Zameer Sadiq, Abid Saddiq, Tahir Yassin, and Ramin Bari—received sentences following an investigation by the National Crime Agency under Operation Stovewood.

The victims, aged 11 and 15 at the time of the abuse, were subjected to years of exploitation in South Yorkshire.

Operation Stovewood continues to investigate cases of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham, underscoring the systemic failures that allowed such crimes to persist for over a decade.
