Manchester United interim Manager, Michael Carrick has insisted that Manchester United FC are still mathematically and competitively alive in the Premier League title race, despite acknowledging the challenge of catching the league’s top teams.
United secured a hard-fought 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace FC on Sunday, a result that lifted them to third place on the league table behind Arsenal FC and Manchester City FC.
The victory extended United’s strong recent form, with the club recording six wins and one draw in their last seven matches. However, Carrick stressed that while momentum is important, the team must remain grounded and realistic about their chances of catching the league leaders.
United’s next challenge comes against Newcastle United FC, a fixture that could play a key role in shaping their title ambitions. At present, United trail first place by 13 points, a gap Carrick admits will require near-perfect consistency to close.
“You cannot rule anything out in football, but we have to be realistic,” Carrick said. “Above us now there are two fantastic teams. Of course, I’m being realistic about it. We have to win a lot of football matches for that to happen.”
