Former Arsenal and Manchester United star Danny Welbeck joined two Nigerians of Isaac Success and Tom Dele-Bashiru in Watford on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old England international left Emirate Stadium in June after five years with the North London outfit, which he scored 32 goals in 126 appearances.Welbeck was not offered a new contract by the Gunners this summer, becoming a free agent after enduring an injury-hit spell with Arsenal where has been out since November with a serious ankle injury picked up against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League. The Ghanaian descent has scored 16 goals in 42 appearances on the international stage with England, last appearing for the Three Lions last September after represented his country at Euro 2012 and World Cup 2014, and was also part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad that reached the semi-finals at last summer’s World Cup in Russia.Welbeck comes through Manchester United’s youth system where he makes his league debut as a 17-year-old and went on to play 142 times for the Red Devils, winning the Premier League and two League Cup trophies before moving to Arsenal in £16m move in 2014.Watford remain in discussions over Ismaila Sarr’s move from Rennes continue over the fee and other details and, if completed, should be a club-record signing.
