Ex-Forest owner stabbed after confronting masked robber

Former Nottingham Forest owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi has been stabbed after confronting masked intruders who broke into his central London home.

The 57-year-old Kuwaiti businessman sustained stab wounds to his hand and injuries to his neck when a group of men entered his bedroom at the £10million property in Mayfair earlier this month. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing.

Officers confirmed that the suspects fled the scene. It remains unclear whether any property was stolen.

Police investigation ongoing

The Metropolitan Police said inquiries are continuing as detectives work to establish how the attackers gained access to the house and whether the incident was targeted.

Images shared online show Al-Hasawi in a hospital bed with bandaged hands. His legal representatives have urged authorities to provide further details about the circumstances of the attack, stating that other visitors from the Arabian Gulf “fear facing similar incidents”.

Al-Hasawi has been known for displaying luxury watches on social media, though there has been no official confirmation that valuables were taken during the break-in.

Background and wider concerns

Al-Hasawi purchased Nottingham Forest in 2012 from the estate of Nigel Doughty. His five-year tenure at the Championship club included nine managerial changes before he sold the club in 2017 to Evangelos Marinakis.

The incident comes amid growing concern about burglaries involving high-profile football figures.

In recent months, several Premier League players have reported break-ins at their homes, with significant losses of watches, jewellery and other valuables.

Authorities have not indicated whether there is any connection between those incidents and the attack on Al-Hasawi.

Police have appealed for information from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the Mayfair area at the time of the break-in. No arrests have been announced.

Investigators are continuing to review security footage and forensic evidence as part of efforts to identify those responsible.
