Men of the Nigerian police command in Otokutu community in Ughelli South Local Government Area in Delta state have reportedly killed a tricycle driver, Mr Okomedo, by beating him to death over N100 bribe.

Activist, Harrison Gwamnishu in a post shared on Facebook, said the police officers allegedly beat the father of three after he refused to give them N100 bribe. He said the deceased after the beating managed to find his way to Otokutu market square where he fell and died on the spot from the multiple injuries and trauma inflicted on him by the police officers. Read what he wrote below:
“On the 10th April, 2020, at about 10Am, some members of Anti-Cult Unit attach to the Delta State Police Command accosted and mercilessly beat up a keke rider who refused paying N100 PASS to them at Otokutu, Ughelli South LGA, Delta State. We were also informed as per eye witness testimonies that after the said they finished brutalizing and beating the deceased, they dragged him on the ground.
The deceased eventually managed to get himself up when they left him helplessly on the floor fighting for his life and he managed to get himself to Otokutu market square where he fell and died on the spot from the multiple injuries and trauma inflicted on him by the.He left behind a young wife and three (3) small children.

The Anti Cult officers also ceased the deceased’s tricycle (keke) and parked same at the Otokutu Police Post.It came to our knowledge that those involved in the inhuman and brutal murder of Mr. Okomedo were subsequently arrested and detained for investigation but sadly we have been reliably informed that they have been set free and are roaming the streets again, this is despite the fact that the offence involved is murder of the most brutal and callous nature.
In view of the foregoing, we urge the State Governor, Commissioner of Police to promptly setup a team to investigate the facts averred herein and ensure that a prompt and dispassionate investigation is conducted in a bid to see that every person involved in the murder of Mr Okomedo is brought to book.
rip
all this anti cult matter, using cultism to fight opposition cultist.it shows how clueless our government are.what a country…..
clueless government.using their political thugs to fight innocent citizens.
what sort of injustice is that please.. why always security agencies most especially police used to killed innocent citizens why please
Police forgot that one day God will judge them.
it is very unfortunate, I think their duty as anti cult officers should be clearly spelt out, I think their duty is to tackle secret cult uprising and cult related issues, now that they harass virtually everybody and mounting road block here and there is it their duty. the government should tell them the limit of their power
This is quite unfortunate. The Police and other law enforcement agents, vigilante inclusive have turned the situation into a money making venture. While some people are seriously bowed down due to the weight of their extortion, they are busy smiling to the banks and also arming themselves with small bottles of action bitter. No wonder the aggrieved women at Sapele took to the streets. I pray that God will comfort the family of the deseased.
it is very unfortunate, let the government tell them the limit of their power, what has the young man done that deserve death sentence leaving his three kids and the wife behind, why is Anti cult officers mounting road block here and there, is their duty not to look into secret cult uprising in the society and cult related issues, let the police swing into full scale investigation with a view to bring the perpetrators to book and face the accordingly.
If what is said above is true, the Delta state government has to do something otherwise something worse than that will happen .please let the rule of law apply.
Enough is enough . let the governors come out to address this brutalities , it happens in Rivers State the killers were set free now in Delta .or the police should also be *ill to put an end to it
