Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has said that the Nigerian security crisis started January 15, 1966, when many prominent persons were killed by some army officers.

Between 8,000 and 30,000 Igbos and other Easterners were estimated to have been killed in 1966.
Following the recent surge in insecurity across the country, particularly in the North, the former Minister, in a post on his verified Facebook page on Monday night, said since the 1966 massacre, Nigerians have continued to settle differences by shedding blood.
He wrote:
The murder of over 20 prominent Nigerian leaders on the night of Jan. 15th 1966 in a mutiny led by some young army officers was the beginning of our troubles in Nigeria. From that point on matters were no longer settled by reason in our body politic: they were settled by blood!
