FCT PPRO call men to order as abandoned baby cases rise in Abuja

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), SP Josephine Adeh, has voiced concern over the increasing number of abandoned babies in Abuja.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), SP Adeh lamented the growing cases of abandoned babies in the FCT, citing two new incidents reported on a single day.

Attributing the disturbing trend to men avoiding their responsibilities, she urged them to ‘zip up’ or employ the use of protection.

She wrote:
“The increasing number of abandoned babies in the FCT is alarming. Just yesterday, two new cases were reported. This troubling trend is largely due to men abandoning women after impregnating them. If you are not prepared to take responsibility for fatherhood, avoid unprotected sex or abstain from it.”

SP Adeh’s statement has sparked mixed reactions across social media. While many users commended her for addressing the issue and holding men accountable for their role in the crisis, others ridiculed the statement.

A social media user @AbdulkoHakeem wrote, “Women too should abstain from unprotected sex. They should not allow men sweet talk swindle them off ground.”

Another user @AJelimafe added, “Madam, many of these don’t even know the exact man that impregnates them, because they sleep around. It’s the joy of a decent man to proudly father a child from a good woman. Admonish ladies too, no thanks to bad economy!”
