Property worth millions of Naira were on Friday destroyed when a 10-room building was gutted by fire at no 46 Bawas street by Calabar street, formerly known as Kaduna street in Umuahia, the Abia state capital, ABN TV reports.

The cause of the inferno which started at about 5:30am is yet to be ascertained as at the moment of filing this report.

The caretaker of the bungalow building, Udochukwu an eye witness shared his views on the fire incident. “Around 5:30am, one of the tenants called me and said caretaker see what is happening. Immediately I woke up and went there and try to help to quench the fire. We called the fire service and this place was so crowded, so people stopped them there because they did not come early but immediately, maybe they called the police and the police intervened and followed them to this axis and they started calming the fire. He said.
