Manchester United are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, but they face plenty of competition for his signature.
Liverpool and Chelsea are two rival clubs that have been linked with the 19-year-old, who has 14 goals and 15 assists in the Bundesliga this season.
No other youngster in European football can compete in terms of output, but there are plenty of other talented alternatives.
Here are five other options that United could take a look at if they miss out on Sancho amid the transfer chaos which could ensue this summer.
Alongside Martin Odegaard and Alexander Isak, 22-year-old Spanish international Mikel Oyarzabal helps make up a Real Sociedad that are garnering a reputation as the most exciting young side in La Liga.
Usually operating from the left side of their forward line, Oyarzabal is an intelligent mover and creative presence. He’s got extensive experience after first breaking through as a teenager in 2015.
Now in his fifth full season as a senior player, he’s made over 180 appearances and is on for his best campaign yet in terms of direct output with eight goals and six assists so far.
The 20-year-old isn’t quite like-for-like in terms of position as Sancho, often operating from central midfield, but he’s versatile and can play further forward and is in excellent individual form of late.
Havertz has scored five goals and registered five assists in his last eight appearances in all competitions. His numbers don’t quite stack up against Sancho’s, but he’s another of the Bundesliga’s best young stars.
Israel-born Ukraine international Tsyhankov has previously been linked with Tottenham and will surely be a frequent fixture of the gossip columns this summer.
A vital player as Andriy Shevchenko’s national team finished ahead of Portugal in Euros qualifying, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder is similarly dangerous at club level. He scored 18 goals in 31 Ukrainian Premier League appearances last season, earning the Player Of The Season award.
With Euro 2020 postponed, the Dynamo Kyiv man won’t have a chance to break through to a wider audience as he’s been threatening to, which could be an advantage for a club looking to make a canny investment.
Liverpool have shown the value of getting relegated players on a cut-price deal, with Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle and Andy Robertson from Hull City playing key roles in recent years.
With Norwich bottom and likely for the drop, Emiliano Buendia could be one to keep an eye on. The Argentinian has registered seven assists for the Canaries this season, but has recently faced criticism from Daniel Farke for failing to score.
But it’s in his underlying stats where he really excels. Only Kevin De Bruyne, Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Maddison have created more chances than Buendia this season.
Over a decade older than Sancho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be understandably reticent to see the club invest in a 30-year-old after getting stung in recent years.
But he’s also seen the benefits of bringing in a player at the very top of their game in the Portuguese top flight, as evidenced by the impact made by Bruno Fernandes.
Benfica’s Pizzi could certainly help bolster their attack, with a career-best 14 goals from 24 appearances in the league this season, and a further five in European competition.
