Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Youssoufa Moukoko added to his incredible list of plaudits by becoming the youngest ever scorer in the UEFA Youth League, aged just 14.
The under 19s tournament is UEFA’s youth version of the Champions League, with the groups mirroring those in Europe’s elite club competition.
On Tuesday afternoon, ahead of their senior sides facing, Dortmund faced Inter in the Youth League with Moukoko breaking the record for the youngest scorer in the competition at just 14 years, 10 months and 29 days.
Moukoko was born in Cameroon but he has already represented Germany at under 16 level and senior international team manager Joachim Low has already spoken about the youngster.
Talking just last week, via the Bundesliga official website, Low said, “I’ve been speaking to [BVBV U19 coach] Michael Skibbe for a while. Everyone involved is well advised to wait and let him develop in peace.”
Talking about the player club manager Skibbe said, “He’s so young and already so good. The boy will one day become a professional, that’s as sure as a prayer in the church. Only injuries can stop him. He’s got very good technique, speed, and finishes well. These are three strong qualities that come together.”
In just 69 games for Dortmund the youngster has already bagged himself 106 goals, he won the Under 17s Bundesliga and twice won the league’s golden boot award for top scorer.
The teenager has already been dubbed the ‘new Messi’ and the ‘new Eto’o,’ in typical fashion, and according to reports teams have already started scouting the player who made his under 17s debut aged 12.
According to reports in Spain one of those clubs is Real Madrid, with Florentino Perez interested in the youngster who started at St. Pauli.
Considering their history with bringing through young players and giving them regular minutes in the first team it’s hard to imagine that Moukoko isn’t already in the best place possible for his career.
He might be a couple months short of his 15th birthday but it might not be too long before we see him in the Bundesliga, it’s definitely worth remembering his name.
