Melbourne City defender Curtis Good produced a stunning goal-line clearance to prevent Western Sydney Wanderers forward Simon Cox from scoring in the Australian A-League.
Former Newcastle centre back Good appeared to have little chance of stopping Cox from finding the net but he raced back before making an excellent challenge.
Good’s team-mate Harrison Delbridge was also on the goal-line to help clear the danger, with Cox, who previously played for West Brom, Reading and Southend, left hugely frustrated by his failure to score.
Good admitted that he was rather fortunate to get the ball away.
‘I was quite lucky in the end, to be honest,’ Good told the A-League’s official website.
‘It was my mistake at the start that caused it. I was quite lucky he didn’t slide in and it gave me the opportunity to get back.
‘It was more just panic. As soon as you make the mistake your heart starts racing.
‘At first I thought there was an opportunity but I suppose you just keep on going and get back and do what you can.
‘Luckily (Harrison Delbridge) was on the line as well so with him tracking back it gave us the opportunity to clear it.’
The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with Tate Russell having given Western Sydney Wanderers the lead before Jamie Maclaren equalised for Melbourne City with a penalty.
Melbourne City are currently in second place in the A-League, while Western Sydney Wanderers are in eighth.
Good joined Newcastle in 2012 but made just two competitive appearances for the first team before leaving in 2018.
