After photos of a starving lion and other under fed animals surfaced online, a veteran journalist has weighed in on the matter. 

Nigerian talk show host, broadcaster, journalist, and blogger, Funmi Iyanda expressed shock while reacting to the trending photos. 

Funmi described it as a “strong society metaphor”, and explained that ”caging something so powerful and beautiful, reduces it to an unrecognizable version of itself until it dies is typical mindless cruelty.” In her words: 

Such a strong society metaphor. Cage something so powerful and beautiful, reduce it to an unrecognisable version of itself until it dies is typical mindless cruelty. The mindlessness is what makes it so effective because the cruelty is unplanned, slow and casual. It just is.
