The Akwa Ibom State government has declared a new minimum wage of N80,000 for its employees, reaffirming its commitment to workers’ welfare, News360 Nigeria reports.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner of Information, Mr. Ini Ememobong, who emphasized that the wage increase reflects the government’s dedication to improving the livelihoods of its workforce.
Governor Umo Eno has established a 15-member implementation committee, led by the Head of the Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, to oversee the seamless rollout of the new wage policy. The committee, which includes representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), has been tasked with delivering a report within one month detailing how the wage increment will be implemented.
This move by the state government marks a significant step towards addressing the economic challenges faced by workers and underscores its efforts to support the welfare of its workforce.
