Every once a year since 2012, fashion enthusiasts, buyers, consumers and the media turn their sights to Lagos, Nigeria to see what’s new in the African fashion space, and every year, African fashion designers have delivered nothing short of brilliance.
For four days, thousands of people in the fashion industry gather in Africa’s most populated city and are often thrilled by the designs showcased at the Lagos Fashion Week.
The Heineken Lagos Fashion Week is a 4-day event that brings together the best of the best in African design, and this year, the event which held at Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, delivered a masterclass in what it means to be a melting point for style. By the standards it has set for itself, it might just be the fashion show of the century and here’s why:
The Ace Designer Line-Up: This year, there were over 40 top designers drawn from around the world who hit the runway with their different collections, making the event a spectacle. There were fashion gurus like; Mai Atafo, Maki Oh, Sisiano, Fruche, Haute Baso, Selle Raby Kane and many more, all of who made really bold fashion statements with their collections. There were even special offsite presentations organised for some of the designers.
The Talent Side of The Runway: If there’s one thing the Lagos Fashion Week does so well, it is uncovering and supporting budding talents in the African fashion space. From the Pop-Up Show at the Heineken VIP Lounge to the Green Access and Fashion Focus Africa, the event has been a Launchpad for so many of the big names we now have today, and that has always been one of its central goals.
African Prints, African Prints, African Prints: It goes without saying that the world is becoming more and more interested in African prints, and there is one event that sets the trends for it – the Heineken Lagos Fashion Week! All the designers at each edition of the Lagos Fashion Week have always infused African prints into their designs. Dumebi Iyamah of Andrea Iyamah once had everyone starstruck with her African print swimwear, and has inspired even more designers to go bold.
The Lagos Vibe: There is no denying that the presence of this event in the cultural diverse and hugely creative city of Lagos is a huge plus. At every turn, there are talents creating something unique and this has made it easy for title sponsor and international premium beer brand, Heineken to constantly deliver a premium experience to all guests at the event.
At the just concluded Heineken Lagos Fashion Week held at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos from October 23 to October 26, 2019, participants soaked in the best of African creativity, as the designers got a chance to promote more of Africa’s fashion brilliance.
