President Bola Tinubu has jokingly revealed that he almost avoided watching the Super Falcons’ final match live to protect his health.

Speaking during the reception, President Tinubu said he nearly chose not to watch the tension-filled final against Morocco because he didn’t want to risk having high blood pressure.

“Honestly, I did not want to watch the match. I didn’t want high blood pressure. But people came into my room and turned on my TV to that channel.

“When it was 2-0, I got very restless and very offended. But I was still there watching. I was impressed by the indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage of the team,” he said.

The Super Falcons staged a dramatic comeback in Saturday’s final, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 in Rabat, clinching their record-extending 10th WAFCON title in front of a stunned home crowd.

The triumphant team arrived at the Presidential Villa at exactly 4:35 p.m. on Monday to a jubilant reception. They were warmly welcomed by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, before proceeding to meet with the President.

The celebratory atmosphere at the Villa reflected national pride, as officials, dignitaries, and fans commended the resilience, determination, and fighting spirit displayed by the Super Falcons throughout the tournament.
