Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi has revealed that he didn’t sign for Chelsea Football club of England because he was underage.
Onazi joined Lazio in 2011 following appearances at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, in which Nigeria reached the final on home soil, losing to Switzerland.
Onazi, 31, has now revealed that he had a trial with the Blues but because he was up to 18 years the whole process failed to materialised.
“When I was young, I almost signed for Chelsea, but we were underage and couldn’t play.” Onazi told Ajansspor.
“We had to wait until we were 18. There was a lot of process.
“That is why my manager decided that we would go to Italy at that time. So he could start in Lazio’s second team and then, when he developed, he could start in the first team.”
