“If the woman has put on perfume, she does not have the right to go out” — Imam warns women on public conduct

An Islamic cleric has warned women to exercise extreme caution when in public, particularly regarding perfume, clothing, and interaction with men.

Speaking during a recent sermon, the imam emphasised that women should avoid drawing attention to themselves, arguing that public spaces are inherently dangerous for men and women if boundaries are not respected.

He stated, “If the woman has put on perfume, she does not have the right to go out in that state. And when you’re on the sidewalk, my sister, don’t forget to hug the walls. Leave the middle of the road to men, and you take the shoulder. The fitna of the mix is terrible.”

The cleric stressed that families, particularly male guardians, have a responsibility to ensure women under their care adhere to these guidelines.

“You have a duty to forbid your wife or your daughters, or even your sisters, or all those under your guardianship, from going out perfumed, made up, etc.,” he added.

On social interactions, the imam urged strict segregation. He said, “There are no boyfriends and girlfriends in Islam. Even if you do nothing, as you claim, no, no, but we’re not doing anything. We still forbid women from speaking to men, and rest assured, ladies, it is also forbidden for men to speak to women.”

He also cautioned women about scented detergents, saying fragrances can attract attention even from a distance.
