A Northern Islamic scholar has warned that growing dissatisfaction with the administration of President Bola Tinubu could significantly influence voting patterns in the region, suggesting that many northerners may shift their support to Labour Party’s Peter Obi if current conditions persist.
The cleric made the remark during a public discussion on governance and national unity, highlighting concerns over economic hardship, insecurity, and perceived marginalisation of opposition voices.
According to him, the warning reflects a broader sentiment among citizens struggling with rising living costs and limited economic opportunities.
He noted that similar political shifts have occurred in Nigeria’s history, particularly during the 2015 general elections when widespread discontent contributed to a major change in leadership at the federal level.
“If President Tinubu continues to frustrate Nigerians and the opposition, northerners will massively vote for Peter Obi,“ the scholar said.
He further stressed that the electorate is becoming increasingly aware of its power to vote whomever they want to.
The remarks come amid ongoing debates over economic reforms and governance style, with political analysts noting that public perception could play a decisive role in shaping future electoral outcomes.
