Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Friday condoled with the families of those affected in the collapse of a 21-storey building at Ikoyi, Lagos State.

He stated this via his verified Facebook page, where he described the accident as a “horrible tragedy”.
On Monday, a high-rise building under construction collapsed on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State, leaving at least 40 people dead and many injured.
In his Facebook post on Friday, the Vice President mentioned that the tragic event made him sad, as he also condoled with the families of those affected.
Osinbajo wrote, “I am saddened by events that occurred in Lagos on Monday, 1st of November 2021, where a high-rise building under construction on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, collapsed; a horrible tragedy.
“I condole with the families and relatives of all those who have died, were injured or affected in this collapse.”
This comes shortly after his media aide, Laolu Akande, debunked rumours that Osinbajo was the owner of the collapsed Ikoyi building land.
Akande was reacting to reports which surfaced online on Thursday linking the Vice President to the collapsed building land ownership.
The report, which was published by an online medium (not The PUNCH), also claimed that the said land was sold to Osinbajo by the founder of Elizade Motors, Chief Michael Ade-Ojo.
However, Ade-Ojo had denied selling the land to the vice president.
Osinbajo’s media aide also made it clear that his boss did not intervene with the regulatory authorities in Lagos State to unseal the property at any point.
Akande said, “Let it be made absolutely clear that Prof. Yemi Osinbajo does not own and has never owned the said land.
“He has also never been involved, in any shape or form, in the development of this or any other land since he became Vice President.”
