Businessman and social commentator, Isaac Fayose has called out Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the staggering ₦39 billion reportedly spent on renovating the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC)—a facility originally built for ₦240 million in 1991 under General Ibrahim Babangida.
Fayose, known for his outspoken stance on governance, described the move as “ego construction,” questioning the justification for spending such an amount of money on a renovation amid a biting economic crisis in Nigeria.
“The ICC was built from the ground up in 1991 with just ₦240 million—a full, functional national monument,” Fayose said.
“Now in 2025, ₦39 billion is being used not to build, but simply to renovate the same structure.”
“This isn’t about national development or preserving legacy,”
“This is about rewriting history with paint, bricks, and personal branding.”
He slammed the administration for prioritizing such projects while Nigerians grapple with inflation.
“There’s a deeper problem here,” Fayose warned. “It’s not just about the money—it’s about what we value as a nation. While people are struggling to survive, we are spending billions on ego and self-glorification.”
International Conference Centre has been renamed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
