“It’s a waste praying after electing a bad leader” – Apostle Johnson Suleman blasts govt over rising insecurity

Senior pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has sparked reactions after delivering a strong message about leadership amid rising insecurity in Nigeria.

Speaking during a sermon, the clergyman criticised both the government and growing normalisation of killings across the country, describing the situation as deeply troubling.

“It’s a waste praying when you have elected a bad person. The only prayer you should now pray is the grace to survive the suffering. The height of insensitivity is when people are mourning, you are sending media to do damage control,” he said.

He further lamented how constant reports of killings have begun to affect Nigerians mentally, warning that repeated exposure to violence is gradually eroding empathy among citizens.

According to him, the nation is becoming desensitised to loss of lives, as people now react casually to tragic news instead of demanding accountability.

“You wake up, they say 40 people have been killed somewhere, you say ‘eeyah’ and move on. Do you know what that does to your mind? It is killing empathy. Death is becoming normal. We are not debating numbers of chicken, we are debating human lives,” he added.

He also criticised the government’s response to national tragedies, urging authorities to show empathy rather than focus on controlling public narratives.

“When people are mourning, tell your media to keep quiet. It is lack of empathy that people are grieving and you are responding with defence. That is insensitivity,” he concluded.

His message has added to ongoing conversations about leadership, empathy, and the state of the nation, as Nigerians continue to react to rising insecurity.
